WandoMom, a Korean seaweed processing company, specializes in manufacturing and selling a variety of seaweeds cultivated in the region's pristine coastal waters, processed using a quick-freezing method.

Typically, seaweed must be soaked in water to remove its salinity before consumption. However, WandoMom considers the convenience of consumers by blanching seaweed immediately after harvesting from the farm and then freezing it for sale.

Currently, WandoMom processes five types of seaweed: wakame, kelp, acorn kelp, sea mustard, and Gompi. The harvested seaweed is immediately transported to WandoMom’s facility, undergoes primary processing, and is packaged meticulously before being swiftly delivered to key markets nationwide, including Garak Market in Seoul and Noryangjin Fish Market.

Last year, WandoMom recorded a revenue of 9.3 billion KRW, driven by the sale of various seaweed products, including ready-to-eat Gompi (a perennial seaweed related to kelp). Of this, 12% (1.1 billion KRW) came from international exports to countries such as Japan, Vietnam, the United States, and Taiwan, significantly contributing to foreign currency earnings.

Founded in 2018, WandoMom, a Korean seaweed processing company, began operations with five local fishery workers at the Wando Agricultural Industrial Complex. With a team of 17 highly skilled professionals, the company has streamlined its operations with a one-stop system for seaweed processing and packaging, enhancing efficiency.

Despite its small team, WandoMom has grown robustly, earning a reputation as a "strong company" in the region, and ranking among the top three local seaweed processing companies in terms of performance.

CEO Lee Su-hwa of WandoMom, a Korean seaweed processing company, stated, "Wando is a region where various seafood farming and seaweed processing industries are concentrated, with a backdrop of clean, clear coastal waters. While considering how to create high-value-added seaweed products, we came up with the idea of 'seaweed quick freezing' and focused on generating profits with the establishment of the corporation."

This year, WandoMom plans to increase the proportion of overseas exports to more than 50% of its total revenue. Additionally, the company intends to expand its range of processed seaweed products from the current five to seven or eight varieties, diversifying its revenue structure.

CEO Lee Su-hwa added, "We are implementing various strategies, such as participating in international trade fairs, to open up new overseas markets in addition to our existing export countries like Japan, Vietnam, the U.S., and Taiwan. We will continue to present a wider variety of processed seaweed products to expand consumer choices and will do our best to meet their needs."
