Korean battery recycling company SungEel HiTech is establishing a recycling park in Indiana as its second base in North America, following Georgia, USA. The company is accelerating the establishment of a full-fledged local base in North America.

On the 21st, Korean battery recycling company SungEel HiTech announced the selection of a business site in Indiana, USA, considering raw material procurement. It has been three months since the establishment of ‘SungEel Recycling Park Indiana’ in Indiana this May.

Indiana, which was selected as the project site, is a transportation hub where multiple highways connecting various parts of the central and eastern U.S. and a major transportation hub for large logistics companies. Moreover, it is easy to travel to Canada and Mexico, thus emerging as a base for electric vehicle and battery production in the United States. Together with SungEel HiTech, 14 other Korean companies, including Samsung SDI and Soulbrain, are planning to enter the market.

Korean battery recycling company SungEel HiTech expects that once the ‘Indiana Recycling Park’ is completed, it will be able to produce core battery materials that can be supplied to up to 100,000 electric vehicles per year from battery process scrap and used batteries. SungEel Recycling Park Indiana is scheduled to operate in the second quarter of 2025.

SungEel HiTech completed the establishment of a local corporation in Georgia, U.S. in July 2022 and is in the process of establishing a recycling park by securing an 81,000㎡ site in the ‘Stephens County Toccoa’ area.

Since the automobile industry is growing rapidly on account of the recent Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), an EV battery belt is forming in the eastern U.S. from Michigan to Georgia. The three domestic battery companies have 15 battery factories in operation or under construction in the U.S. and Canada through independent factories or joint ventures (JVs).

Besides, as global OEMs, battery cell manufacturers, and battery materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) companies are also entering the battery belt and building production lines, SungEel HiTech’s expansion into the U.S. is also expected to create synergy in several aspects.

An official from SungEel HiTech, a Korean battery recycling company, shared, “To build a sustainable and stable battery supply chain, a material recycling business using clean technology is essential. As our second base in North America following Georgia, we expect to expand the battery belt supply chain in the eastern region and create synergy with local battery cell manufacturers and OEMs while responding to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) through the Indiana Recycling Park,”

he continued. “With the completion of the third hydro center in Korea, we plan to further increase the customer value of resource circulation by establishing triangular bases in Asia, North America, and Europe,” he added.
