Electric two-wheelers and personal mobility devices can only be charged with household 220V, and the use of public electric vehicle charging stations is restricted to electric and hybrid cars only under the Eco-Friendly Vehicle Act in South Korea. In this situation, users of electric two-wheelers and personal mobility devices are facing inconvenience carrying chargers for long-distance travels.

To solve this issue, a Korean battery manufacturer BASMAN Technology is conducting a demonstration project using an external on board charger (OBC). The demonstration project about external OBC focuses on providing convenience to users by enabling the charging of electric two-wheelers and personal mobility devices.
 

External OBC is an essential device to provide basic comfort to electric two-wheelers and personal mobility devices users. But until recently, it has not been able to receive KC certification due to the lack of appropriate safety standards. 

However, BASMAN Technology has used regulatory sandbox to get approval for demonstration project using external OBC to charge electric two-wheelers and personal mobility devices.

A regulatory sandbox is a legal system allowing businesses to test and experiment with new and innovative products, services for a limited period of time. Through this system, BASMAN Technology aims to validate the use of external OBC and lead the innovation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in global market.

An official from a Korean battery manufacturer BASMAN Technology said “Electric motorcycle manufacturers in Thailand and Vietnam have shown great interests in our ongoing project. Considering that these countries are formulating policies related to motorcycles due to environmental pollution issues, we expect significant opportunities for international market expansion."
