South Korean biotech company PnP Biopharm has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Konkuk University’s KU Institute of Convergence Science and Technology for the joint development of exosome therapy. This collaboration is expected to present a new paradigm in next-generation biopharmaceutical development.

Recently, exosome therapy has been gaining attention as the next-generation biopharmaceutical, rapidly expanding in the global market. Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles responsible for intercellular communication. Initially recognized for their role in cellular waste disposal, recent studies have revealed their potential as drug delivery systems, making them a highly promising therapeutic tool. Their natural origin within the human body ensures minimal side effects and high safety, making them a strong candidate for overcoming the limitations of conventional treatments.
 

South Korean companies are actively developing exosome therapy not only as an alternative to stem cell therapy but also for applications in anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, and tissue regeneration treatments. However, exosome therapy has yet to be commercialized, primarily due to challenges in quality control and large-scale production. In response, domestic companies are accelerating joint research and development efforts to overcome these technological barriers and secure a foothold in the global market.
