Consumers are increasingly focusing on healthy food after the COVID-19 pandemic as they are concerned about their health and immunity. Considering this recent consumer culture, Korean food distributor and manufacturer A-Life has launched a vegan bakery brand, VEGRAIN, to accelerate the launch of various vegan foods.

VEGRAIN is a vegan bakery brand that produces bread without using animal ingredients and has been steadily gaining popularity from consumers who have difficulty consuming animal protein or prefer vegetarianism since its launch. VEGRAIN's plant-based breads are protein-rich and lightly flavored with a new ingredient, aquafaba, an egg substitute made from soy water.

A combination of the Latin words aqua, meaning water, and faba, meaning bean, aquafaba is the water in which chickpeas, lentils, and other legumes are boiled. When whisked into a creamy texture, aquafaba can be used as a substitute for egg whites and has the same key properties as eggs, making it a great vegan baking ingredient. It's a great egg substitute because it's significantly lower in cholesterol and calories than eggs and provides a healthy source of protein. 

The protein content of VEGRAIN's plain bagel is 140 grams, which is more protein than 100 grams of tofu, and it is a high-protein, low-sugar product with significantly lower sugar compared to regular bread. The flavor and texture are identical to regular bread, but the high protein and low sugar content make it a popular choice for consumers who are trying to control their weight or manage their diet for health.
